Add to Calendar 02/01/2020 2:00 PM 02/02/2020 5:00 PM America/New_York Summary of the event Animal Care Services will host a FREE Microchip MANIA event this Friday! Free microchips are available for San Antonio Residents ONLY. Please note, we also offer FREE microchips for SA residents EVERY DAY at Animal Care Services. Non-San Antonio residents may also purchase a microchip for a low-cost of only $5 at our Shelter located at 4710 Highway 151 - not at the Microchip Mania Event. No appointments are needed and all pets are welcome but residents should ensure their animal companions are leashed or in an appropriate carrier. Animal Care Services implanted microchips include basic lifetime registration and can be updated at any time without charge. The onetime injection is similar to a vaccination and the microchip s no bigger than a grain of rice. Local veterinary clinics and shelters (including ACS) scan animals upon intake with a special handheld device. The pet’s microchip has a unique ID number (similar to a driver’s license number) which can be “read” by this scanner, helping trace the dog or cat back to the owner through their provided contact information.
